FAQ

Will therapy help me??

Just like any investment first you want to know will it work? When you get the answer it depends that doesn’t sound very promising now does it :/

The main factor in therapy success is the client-therapist relationship. So first of all, do you like me? And I don’t mean “like like” this isn’t 5th grade. Do you think you would be willing to hang out with me for close to an hour every week in my office? Drink some tea or water and share things that you may have never shared with anyone else in your entire life? Well if so, then you came to the right place! You probably won’t know that completely up front, but that’s why I have a lot of content on my website, videos and so forth so you can get to know me and determine that for yourself.

As far as empirical evidence and my expertise and so forth, I have the skills to be able to help people who have gone through some serious shit. However, there are some things that I don’t really have experience doing and I know there are other therapists out there for those other things. So call me, tell me what’s up and if I don’t think I  am the right person to help you I will give you the hook-up for who is.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

If you do not show up to your appointment, or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, you will be billed for the cost of the session.

Do you take insurance?

I run a small boutique style private counseling practice, not a managed care driven mental health clinic. It is important for me to preserve the integrity of the counseling process and avoid conflicts with managed care. My clients enjoy holding privacy of not allowing insurance companies to have access to their personal affairs as well as not holding a mental health diagnosis, which can sometimes be an issue when holding government jobs, obtaining life insurance, or any other process that digs into your privacy.

If it would be helpful for you to have insurance to reduce the cost of therapy, I am considered an out of network provider for insurance companies other than the ones listed above. I encourage you to find out if your insurance covers any out-of-network benefits. If so, I can provide you with a “Super Bill” to receive all or partial reimbursement for the cost of the therapy session. Full payment, however, will be collected that the time of your session.

You can also utilize your Flex Spending Account/Health Savings Account to pay for services.  This helps save you money by using tax-free money to pay for services.

Why would I choose to pay privately instead of using my insurance?

  • No documentation of a mental illness
  • No limits to sessions
  • Can receive therapy if I’m not “mentally ill”
  • People have less access to my personal information
